Wayray Navion: The future of In Car Navigation?
WayRay, A Swiss company – has developed the world’s first holographic car navigation called WayRay Navion to help drivers keep their eyes on the road.
Nowadays there are plenty of ways which you can use for navigation while driving your car but most of them have a single big shortcoming. Whether you are someone who uses a standalone global positioning system (GPS), a specific navigational system within your car, your own smartphone, a smartwatch, or even using a classic paper map (the good old days?) you always have to look somewhere other than the road in order to see where you should make that turn and when.
So the burning question goes like this: How can you keep your eyes glued to the road without getting lost? Unless you know the way a hundred percent, an option would be a heads-up display. Those devices are becoming more and more popular on today’s most modern high-end cars, and they often have features like showing you the directions, the current wind speed, or even the weather, just so that the drivers themselves have the most necessary and most important information displayed right within their field of vision.
Heads-up displays are a rather new technology that is spreading quite fast , we’ve seen screens that are able to show ghost cars for races and the racers, and another form that sort of paints the edges of a road with lasers (virtually) on your car’s windshield when the weather is harsh, and don’t forget Mini’s augmented reality glasses, but all these have their own faults as well.
Enter WayRay Navion:
One device to look forward to however, although still in development, is the Wayray Navion, a holographic device made by WayRay, a company from Switzerland.
The Navion will have the ability to project holographic images onto your car’s wind-shield using a small round shaped device that is supposed to sit on your dashboard. This is a great feature because users won’t necessarily have to buy a new car to have the Navion holographic device in their vehicles.
Wayray Navion will also be able to put navigation information as well as notifications where you can see them without looking away from the road. Those directions will have the same look as the arrows seen in many video games.
Wayray Navion Gesture Control
And as if that was not enough, WayRay is planning to add a feature that includes the ability for the Navion to respond to your hand gestures as a method of adding more control.
While some car manufacturers have talked about installing this kind of feature, there has been little interest from car makers so far.No helmet or eyewear necessary.
This is how Wayray describe their new tech: “Navion projects the virtual route before the windshield so that it seems to lie in front of your car. You won’t have to turn your head to peek at turn-by-turn directions, thus keeping your eyes safely focused on the road.”
Considering everything works perfectly, and the hand gestures or voice commands make it into the final product, this could end up being the way we all navigate our cars in the future.
WayRay already has previous in the same sector, having already made another device called the Wayray Element. Described as a wearable for your car, the small gadget collects useful data about your car and transforms them into insightful statistics about your driving style, locations and much more.
The applications of the Wayray Navion could also possibly go beyond in-car use and be used in other applications as well. One thing that is for certain is that when the Navion actually hits the market it will surely prove to be useful beyond imagination.
Pre-orders for the Wayray Navion are set to open later on this year, and those interested can sign up for the mailing list on WayRay’s website to keep tabs on the Navion’s progress.
