An Italian start-up has created the world’s first Light curing 3D Printer which is also a multi-purpose, SCARA-based standalone fabricating tool. Lumi Industries Srl is currently running a campaign for the LumiPocket LT on Kickstarter and the personal fabricator has already surpassed it’s goal with over 2 weeks still left to run.
The LumiPocket LT is a standalone and compact multi-purpose fabrication tool that is designed to help makers achieve high quality results.
In addition to being a high quality resin based 3D Printer, the LumiPocket personal fabricator also features a laser engraver that can be used on various materials, as well as a lightening quick PCB etching machine.
LumiPocket LT, – Compact, Fast, Affordable.
In coming up with the concept for the LumiPocket LT, Lumi Industries, whose founders have a maker background, were aiming for an affordable device but albeit one that would still achieve high quality results. This led the Italian Start-up to setting up a campaign on Kickstarter in order to achieve their vision.
Lumi Industries has previous experience in this arena.
Starting in 2013 with Lumifold, the first foldable DLP 3D printer, which was the result of a hobbyists project. The success of Lumifold persuaded the part time makers to set up Lumi Industries as a way to make 3D printing affordable and available to everyone easily. This mission continues today and the LumiPocket LT is the latest successful project from the Italian 3D tech start-up.
For ordinary consumers, part time makers, and even professionals, the compact fabricator is an extremely versatile device that has already garnered a lot of interest and support from the 3D community and enthusiasts.
Highlights on the LumiPocket LT include a “Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm”, or “SCARA” system, that makes up the mechanism that moves the laser, a great looking design, plus the added ability to use the device for etching and engraving projects.
With the revolutionary combination of a 3D printer, PCB etching, and laser engraving, the possibilities are endless. And all that will be possible with the use of one machine. An example featured by Lumi Industries showcases a Japanese style lamp that utilised all three components.
The lamp’s body is created as a 3D Print, the lampshades are then laser etched from a vector image, and the controlling PCB utilises UV laser etching.
LumiPocket LT’s SCARA system means that the robotic arm of the device is able to enter and retract easily through confined spaces. By taking up the smallest possible space, controlling the arm allows for quicker, but higher quality results.
The 3D printer on the device is UV laser based and utilises a light curing, resin based printing process that is simple, fast, and of better quality.
In addition to a fast, custom PCB etcher, the LumiPocket LT also boasts a compact laser engraver and marker. The integrated UV laser is capable of engraving an array of materials including wood, cardboard, or leather.
LumiPocket LT Specifications:
The LumiPocket LT is designed to be compact and affordable, so weighs in at under two kg’s. The devices’ measurements are 20 x 12 x 38 cm and its small size also means that it only consumes under 5w of power.
The personal fabricatorr is also completely autonomous, once a user has created their project all they have to do is simply insert an SD card with the relevant info into the LumiPocket LT and the machine will do all the rest, including turning off once the printing job is done.
With various perks and rewards for backing the LumiPocket LT on KickStarter, and having already surpassed the 39,000 dollar goal set, this extraordinary 3D printer is sure to do well.
