The Internet of Things (IoT) revolution is well and truly underway, with the number of connected devices growing all the time. From 400 million IoT-connected devices in 2016, it is projected that there will be more than 1.5 billion by 2022. The telecommunications industry is becoming increasingly focused on IoT. Therefore it’s little wonder that the technology is having an increasing impact on our usage of mobile devices.
How IOT will Impact the Mobile Experience
Neon SMS created this infographic outlining the ways in which IoT is likely to shape the mobile experience. Most of the projected changes are intended to add convenience for mobile users. This includes automating processes that traditionally would have required manual input. In addition, taking payments from an account set up on the mobile device will negate the need for carrying coins and notes.
Some of these changes have already been introduced. An example is airline boarding passes being sent via PDFs to a mobile device rather than needing to be printed physically. Others are set for an imminent launch date or remain interesting concepts. However the shift towards IoT becoming an integral part of the mobile experience is clear.
